Contained: Body and Object
2024
Video art / Installation

The plastic we easily use and discard for convenience eventually comes back to us and becomes a form of food in the shape of microplastics. Microplastics that silently enter our bodies dominate us without us realizing it. Despite the increasing health issues, humans can't seem to stop overconsuming plastic.
In theĀ Contained: Body and Object, the moving images of produced, consumed, and abandoned plastics are projected onto a human body. On the other hand, the human body appears still, like a dead body, contrasting with the active movement of plastics that travel through our bodies. The periodic dripping sound from the speakers resembles an IV drip bag, seemingly providing nutrients to the ill human body. Ironically, in reality, it is just another lump of plastic.
As if the heavy materiality of television is pressing down on us, our bodies and behaviors seem contained within that TV, making it challenging to break out of the frame. Also, microplastics remain contained in our bodies without being discharged, portraying a repeating image in the same place over and over again.
