Fresh Trash and Anew+ are speculative design that stems from my imagination with a “what if” question: what if we exhaust most of food resources in the world due to climate crises and countless products fill up the land?” Through these speculative works, I satirize a bleak future where trash becomes alternative food resources with resource depletion and environmental destruction caused by overconsumption.
The basic concept of the work is that people will be able to extract nutrient chemical elements like Co, Na, N, and S, from overflowing incorruptible trash such as plastics, metal, and glass, and recombine these elements to make edible food using the method of molecular gastronomy. Based on concrete research on the forms and properties of chemical elements humans need to survive, I designed a selection of molecular gastronomy made from trash in a 3d graphic.
